I am ashamed of our area for not wanting a cold-weather shelter. We had the chance and turned it down.
Why is it that a much smaller community, Salt Spring Island, can open a year-round, 30-bed shelter? The homelessness task force must be shaking their heads in frustration. I guess it is up to the local churches to step in and fill the void. I hope they care more about the poor and sick than the surrounding communities and the City of Parksville.
