After over four decades of dedicated service in the hospitality industry, Paul Drummond, general manager at Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort, has announced his retirement.

Drummond’s departure marks the end of an era characterized by his contributions to the resort, the community and the broader tourism sector.

His career spans numerous achievements and a lasting impact on Tigh-Na-Mara. He began his journey in the industry at the Westin in Edmonton and then ventured into diverse roles across the globe, showcasing his commitment to innovation and sustainability. His leadership at Tigh-Na-Mara started in 2007, transforming the resort into a premier destination in British Columbia and Parksville, earning international recognition that includes a feature in National Geographic’s Spa & Wellness edition.

Throughout his tenure, Drummond’s vision extended beyond the confines of the resort, exemplified by his instrumental roles on various boards and associations. His commitment to sustainability garnered accolades such as the Fortis BC Award in 2016 and a consistent 4-key rating by Green Key Global since 2018. His impact on the tourism sector reverberates in accomplishments such as the remarkable 320 per cent growth in revenue in Parksville’s accommodation sector since 2007 and under his leadership.

Drummond’s unwavering dedication to community initiatives, such as the annual Toy Drive fundraiser, which just celebrated its 15th year with record donations and the innovative ‘Party on the Drive’ and ‘Pumpkins on the Drive’ events, reflect his commitment to fostering a cohesive and supportive environment within the hospitality community.

“Paul Drummond’s retirement marks the conclusion of an extraordinary chapter at Tigh-Na-Mara,” remarked Brian Cocks, managing director of Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort. “His visionary leadership and unwavering dedication have left an indelible mark on our resort, the local community, and the broader tourism landscape. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for his invaluable contributions.”

In light of Paul’s retirement, the resort is thrilled to have Jim Hykaway as the new general manager. With a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry and a deep-rooted commitment to Tigh-Na-Mara’s values, Hykaway is poised to continue the legacy of excellence that he and Drummond have established.

“With his proven track record of 18 years with Tigh-Na-Mara, as rooms director, and later assistant general Manager, and his dedication to our core principles, we are confident in his ability to lead Tigh-Na-Mara into its next chapter,” added Cocks.
