Unhoused people in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area will have access to an overnight warming centre, at least for a few days.

Risebridge has partnered with the Christian Fellowship Centre (CFC) in Qualicum Beach to host a warming centre from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. from Jan. 11 to Jan. 15, weather dependent, at 825 Village Way.

“Our area is expecting temperatures that is life threatening, can cause frostbite or hypothermia or other harm to those unsheltered or without adequate resources such as heat in their living arrangements,” Risebridge said in a social media post.

Temperatures are forecast to plunge to minus 10 C in Qualicum Beach overnight tonight (Jan. 11), according to Environment Canada, and remain below freezing until Monday.

All guests are welcome at the centre. The church can be accessed using bus route 91.

The Risebridge ROSE team will also offer outreach support in the daytime throughout the PQB region.

Daytime services will not be available at the CFC warming centre, but Risebridge suggested recreation centres and libraries as a place for people to warm up in during the day.
