The Lasqueti Island Nature Conservancy found itself one step closer to its fundraising goal after hosting a dinner and auction for a new nature reserve on the island.
LINC raised more than $20,000 with its Midsummer Night fundraiser on Aug. 25, that saw 30 volunteers and 25 donors create a dinner and auction night for the Salish View conservation project.
LINC and the Islands Trust Conservancy look to acquire a 28-acre piece of land that adjoins Squitty Bay Provincial Park to make it a new nature reserve open to the public.
According to information from LINC, the piece of land offers a 270 degree view above ridges and cliffs, rising above Wamer Creek, one of three salmon streams on the island. Guided hikes are available by calling 250-333-8754. For more info, email linc@lasqueti.ca.
LINC’s fundraising goal is $250,000 and, with the recent evening fundraiser, has raised $150,000 with the help of the Islands Trust Conservancy.
“We only have until Dec. 21, 2018 to raise the remaining $100,000,” reads an email from LINC’s president, Gordon Scott. “Donations and pledges are still urgently needed.”
