Arrowsmith Search and Rescue’s search manager, Nick Rivers, is featured in a new book about some of North America’s riskiest search and rescue operations.
Rivers shares some of his accounts as a certified swiftwater rescuer, which has the highest level of risk of all rescues, in Rescue Me: Behind the Scenes of Search and Rescue by Cathalynn Labonte-Smith, according to a news release.
His experiences include rappelling down into the Little Qualicum River to pull a man out of the raging, frigid water in December 2020, surely saving a life.

The book relays stories by volunteer members of search and rescue teams working in extreme conditions such as saving avalanche victims in a snowstorm, climbing into vehicles teetering on cliff edges to free passengers from mangled metal and crossing wafer-thin ice to save an injured cross-country skier.
