Barry Kurland is running for re-election as trustee on the School District 69 board.
“I’m choosing to run to continue the work that I’ve been doing as a member of the board for the past 12 years, and as an educator in this district for many years past,” Kurland said, in a news release. “I believe in public education as a foundation to our democratic society, and being a trustee is a way for me to ensure that our children have the best opportunity for the future.”
He said his priorities will be to continue the work as co-chair of the Climate Action Task force and continue as the BC School Trustees Association (BCSTA) representative.

Kurland will also prioritize working as board representative to the Health and Safety committee and working with district partners CUPE and local BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF).
“And most importantly working toward, as a board member, the social and emotional health and well-being of our learning community.”
Kurland is an organic farmer and said, having lived on a small island without electricity or car ferry for many years, he is passionate about ensuring School District 69 is a leader in sustainable practices.
