RCMP Corporal Asaf Chaudhry said police were called to the Tourist Information Centre, located on Qualicum Beach's waterfront, Thursday morning after a body was found washed up on the sand nearby.

QUALICUM BEACH — A body that washed up on the shore in Qualiucum Beach this week was that of an older male, say police, but an exact identification has not been made.

RCMP Corporal Asaf Chaudhry said police were called to the Tourist Information Centre, located on the town's waterfront, Thursday morning after a body was found washed up on the sand nearby.

“We received a call at 10:50 about a body washed up on the shore by the visitor centre in Qualicum Beach,” he said. “Police attended and a body was recovered. It is curently a coroner’s investigation.”

He said police could not confirm at this time whether the body was that of a 69-year-old Qualicum Beach senior, William Pope, who went missing in the area April 14 and is believed to have drowned.
