Camper burns on Chatsworth Road

Maze of dirt roads made finding the flaming wreck difficult for firefighters

Firefighters from Coombs and Qualicum Beach raced to the end of Chatsworth Road in Whiskey Creek Tuesday morning to extinguish a burning camper.

Unfortunately, the camper wasn’t exactly at the end of Chatsworth Road. It was about 1.5 kilometres past the end, somewhere on a maze of dirt roads that only the locals can really figure out.

Fortunately, the Coastal Fire Centre was contacted and they sent up a chopper to locate the fire and they were able to disclose its position to the Coombs fire crew, who were able to extinguish what was left of the camper. Oceanside RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman said police attended the scene as well. — Neil Horner
