A Sooke man has been charged in the shooting death of a 42-year-old man in Otter Point last year.
Adam John Steenbergen, 33, has been charged with manslaughter for the killing of Michael Leier, according to the Victoria Criminal Registry.
The RCMP received a report on March 12, 2023, from paramedics at 9:45 p.m. about a man in need of medical attention in the 8500 block of West Coast Road. Officers arrived to find the man had died, police said in a statement.
In addition to the manslaughter charge, Steenbergen also faces charges of mishandling a firearm without taking proper safety precautions and possessing a loaded restricted firearm without the necessary licence.
Steenbergen is scheduled to return to court on April 1.
