City of Parksville operations crews will plant some new trees in Woodland Park (16 Woodland Dr.).

They will replace 13 dead and dying Western red cedars removed from the park a few years ago, according to a news release by the city.

The city was awarded a BC Hydro Community ReGreening Program grant of $2,500, matched by the city, to complete the park upgrade.

“In 2021, we engaged with the neighbours near Woodland Park to conduct a survey to help determine a vision and priorities for the park,” the release read. “In the survey, residents indicated a desire to see the addition of trees to the park.”

The operations crew began layout and digging holes last week and will continue work this week.

The trees chosen are a mixture of native trees, trees with fall colour, flowering trees and trees with colour through the season.
