This past weekend was the highly-anticipated eagle release at the North Island Wildlife Recovery Association.
There is only one public eagle release at the NIWRA annually, but multiple eagles are released each year. The eagle was admitted to the NIWRA in October of last year. People started arriving at the association more than an hour before the eagle was scheduled to be released.
Garry Cox, the president of the Rotary Club of Parksville AM, held the bird and walked it through the area, showing the guests the bird before releasing it.
The eagle didn't go too far right away, choosing instead to sit in a tree a short distance away. For more photos from these and other events, visit our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/PQBNews.
