Cultural fair slated for Qualicum Beach

Day-long event to promote a healthy cultural community

A new kind of fair is taking place in Qualicum Beach next Wednesday, one that organizers  hope will ensure the region’s arts and culture remain healthy  —  while also cultivating new leaders in that area.

It’s called the First Annual Cultural Fair and it’s part of the town’s cultural planning project, presented by the Oceanside Volunteer Association and the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce.

The day-long event includes workshops and events for individuals as well as organizations, and is suited to those who are currently active in arts and culture and those wanting to get involved.

Project consultant Patricia Huntsman said it’s a great way to attract new volunteers to arts and culture which will in turn help attract new residents, including families and entrepreneurs. It’s also helpful for networking, collaborating and linking talent, she said.

“It’s a great way to exchange ideas and improve upon the great vibrancy we have in arts and culture in the community.”

The Cultural Fair will be held at the Civic Centre on Oct. 3, with workshops running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Events are free to the public but pre-registration is required by Oct. 1.

People who would like to take part in this event can find a list of workshops on the Town of Qualicum Beach website at www.qualicumbeach.com and click on the tab “Making Culture Count.”
