Distracted drivers spotted during checkpoint event in Parksville Qualicum Beach

Nine cellphone and 14 other ‘distractions’ recorded

Oceanside Community Safety volunteers conducted six distracted driving awareness checkpoints on March 17 in Coombs, Dashwood, Errington, Parksville and Nanoose Bay.

In total, more than 2,800 vehicles were observed, with nine cellphone and 22 other ‘distractions’ recorded.

The effort was part of Distracted Driving Awareness Month in British Columbia. To learn more, please visit ICBC’s website.

Coombs: 933 vehicles, one cellphone, 14 other distractions, 11 positive interactions;

Dashwood: 435 vehicles, three cellphones;

Errington: 432 vehicles, zero cellphones, six other distractions 33 positive interactions;

Nanoose Bay: 236 vehicles, one cellphone, two other distractions, three positive interactions;

Parksville, 816 vehicles, four cellphones, zero other distractions, one positive interaction.
