Members of the Parksville Downtown Business Association are getting into the Christmas spirit with a new promotion designed to bring joy to a lucky contest winner and a little glitz to the downtown Business Improvement Area.

It's called "North Pole-apalooza" and it's the ultimate in up-cycling. Thirty-seven participating businesses — from restaurants to boutiques to engineering firms and travel agencies — are putting their individual twists on cardboard carpeting "inner-tubes" and turning them into unique North Poles.

The public can vote for their favourite North Pole from Nov. 22 to Dec. 19 and be entered to win a Gotta Love Downtown gift basket, brimming with donations from the businesses displaying a PDBA north pole.

"North Pole-apalooza" was created by PDBA directors Sandy Herle (Close to You), Carol Ormiston (Parksville Home Hardware), and Melisa Beatty (Coastal Community Credit Union) to add sparkle to downtown through the use of a unifying theme. It was also a way for downtown's many service businesses to get involved in a seasonal promotion.
