Drivers obey drinking laws

Police in Oceanside are pleased at the response to drunk driving campaign

Drivers got off to a good start with Santa’s 2012 naughty or nice list — as well as with the local police.

Oceanside RCMP Sergeant Darrell Robertson said police found few drivers who made the mistake of getting behind the wheel while impaired this year.

“People have been educated and are more aware,” Robertson said. “I think a lot of that came from the provincial legislation that has been implemented. That provided some awareness. As well, people are acting in a more responsible manner, certainly in this holiday season.”

Between Christmas Day and this Wednesday, the RCMP and Central Island Traffic Services issued three 24-hour suspensions, processed two charges of impaired driving and one failure to provide a roadside breath sample.
