Numerous municipal election signs have been reported vandalized in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area, only a few days into the official campaign season.
The Town of Qualicum Beach advised candidates on Sept . 20 that signs were noted removed and damaged at the corner of Village Way and the entrance to the Eaglecrest subdivision.
Qualicum Beach town council candidates Anne Skipsey and John Phillips both contacted PQB News to express their concerns about signs being wrecked and taken down.
Skipsey also noted signs are expensive and councillor candidates in the town election are permitted to spend just under $5,400 on them.

The News also received a report by Doug Kitts, director candidate for Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Area G, that one of his campaign signs at Wembley Road and Wright Road was ripped out of the ground within 24-hours of being posted.
Intentional destruction or unlawful removal of election campaign signs is governed by the Criminal Code of Canada. Vandalism of a sign can result in a mischief charge, while stealing signs is considered theft.
The local government election is set for Oct. 15.
