Parksville’s new director of engineering and operations started work May 7, four days before the earthquake in Japan. Bob Harary moved here from disaster-rich California where he was trained in emergency management.
He said from what he’s seen the city, experts and other agencies have good emergency plans, but he was surprised the average person seems to have the attitude that it won’t happen here.
“That’s just wrong, you always have to be conscious,” he said, agreeing with the city’s emergency work which stresses personal preparation.
