Family Day fun on Monday in Coombs

The event is Monday, Feb. 13 from 1-4 p.m. at the Coombs Fairgrounds (1014 Ford Rd.).

The fifth annual Coombs Fair Family Day celebration promises to be a “hopping good time.”

The event is Monday, Feb. 13 from 1-4 p.m. at the Coombs Fairgrounds (1014 Ford Rd.). There will be heritage demos, displays, crafts and games for kids of all ages. The entire event is free. There will also be free hotdogs, popcorn, coffee or tea while supplies last.

Jessica McLaren, the recreation co-ordinator for the Arrowsmith Community Recreation Association, said the theme for the Family Day celebration coincides with the Coombs Fair, so all the crafts and activities at the Family Day celebration will be rabbit-themed.

“We have a whole bunch of different organizations and groups coming out,” McLaren said. “We have everything from butter churning to the railroads to spinners.”

McLaren said the event is getting bigger and bigger every year. This year, she said, they are expecting about 2,000 people.

There will also be a rabbit treasure hunt, 4-H demos and a family photo booth. McLaren said they’re trying to make the event as inclusive as possible for families.  McLaren also said the event will go on rain or shine.  For more information, visit www.coombsfair.com/family-day-2016.                                                                                       — NEWS Staff
