The NEWS has contacted Errington Volunteer Fire Department to find out the cause of the fire.

Errington Volunteer Fire Department sent out a press release July 26 — a day before the brush fire — about how home owners can protect their rural properties from the threat of wildfires.

A representatives from the Coastal Fire Centre gave a presentation to EVFD earlier this year on the FireSmart program and BC Wildfire Service conducted a FireSmart protocol on the fire hall #2 property at the corner of Errington and Dobson roads.

“By doing so the EVFD hopes it will serve as a model for residents and tourists travelling down Errington Road on how to reduce interface fire risk to communities,” the EVFD release reads.

According to the release many properties that are faced with the threat of wildfires are in what’s called the urban interface zone “where homes, cabins and subdivisions are built into the forest landscape.”

“If people can implement measures in their own backyards it will lessen the threat of forest fires spreading to neighbourhoods.”

Errington Volunteer Fire Department will be at the Errington Farmers Market Aug. 4 with information for people to fire smart their property.
