Food safety a priority

Food inspection agency is keeping an eye on radiation levels

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says no food has been shipped from the affected areas of Japan since the March 11 earthquake and when shipments do arrive they have tight new restrictions in place.

On March 23, the CFIA, Canada Border Services Agency and Health Canada implemented enhanced import controls on milk products, fruits and vegetables from affected areas of Japan (the prefectures of Fukushima, Gunma, Ibaraki and Tochigi).

The products will require documentation verifying their safety.
