Forward House offers a new support group

Forward House is introducing a new support group for families and caregivers of people with ongoing mental health and addiction issues.

“We recognize that the responsibility for caring for loved ones with ongoing health concerns can be emotionally charged, isolating and expensive,” said executive director Carol Richardson.

The intention is to “create a community of mutual respect and support,” in which caregivers will learn information relevant to their responsibilities, practical skills and self care.

She said Forward House is following the example and guidance of BC Schizophrenia Society, who’s absence in this area has created a gap in community service.

The Families Forward group will meet bi-weekly at Forward House, starting February 16.

It will combine information and opportunities for shared insights, experiences and wisdom over 20 Wednesday evenings facilitated by Michelle Good, Pat Trozzo and some other outside presenters.

Due to the support of the Coastal Community Credit Union Coastal Spirit Fund, the program is free to participants. It is limited to 15 people and there will be resources and refreshments provided.

For more information and to register, call Michelle or Pat at Forward House, 250-954-0785.
