Free bus starts rolling

Downtown Parksville merchants pay for the service all summer

The Downtown Free Bus, the popular shoppers' shuttle service provided by the Parksville Downtown Business Association and 100 per cent funded by downtown businesses and property owners, is rolling again this summer.

The bus, which brings riders from the resort areas and outlying neighbourhoods to explore and enjoy the shops and services in downtown Parksville, will run Monday to Saturday from July 2 to Aug. 31 inclusive. It will also provide a free shuttle service between downtown and the Community Park on Canada Day.

"PDBA is operating the free bus on the same schedule and route as last year," said PDBA President Michelle Jones. "The feedback we received at the end of last summer indicated that users were happy with both. The route has 15 stops and is a one-hour loop between the Visitors' Centre and downtown and back.

"The bus will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. except on Tuesdays when it operates from noon to 9 p.m. to support the Summer by the Sea Market on Craig Street. The easiest way to find the route and schedule is online."

Many of the bus stop signs feature QR codes which link to the online bus schedule at:

Schedule brochures will be available beginning this week at the usual locations including downtown businesses, area accommodations, the visitors' centre, Rathtrevor Park, the Parksville Community and Conference Centre, the Parksville Civic and Technology Centre and at the PDBA's office.
