It was a whale of a tale.
Environmental consultant Christopher M. Stephens got quite a surprise on April 23, when he encountered a grey whale off the Nanoose Peninsula near Schooner Cove.
Stephens said the whale was just a few metres from the steep, rocky shoreline, swimming and blowing in a small cove.
“The whale was visible swimming just below the surface in the small cove before circling, blowing and diving several times,” he said.

Stephens said grey whales can grow up to 15 metres in length and are limited globally to the Pacific Ocean.
