Half a pound of illegal drugs seized from car pulled over by RCMP in Qualicum Beach

More than $16,000 in cash also seized; three males were released on a promise to appear in court

Oceanside RCMP said they seized more than a half-pound of illegal drugs and more than $16,000 in cash after pulling over a car in Qualicum Beach on Boxing Day.

Three male suspects, a 26 year-old from Errington and a 28 and 35 year-old from Cumberland were later released on a promise to appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court.

Police said on Dec. 26 at 4 p.m., an Oceanside RCMP officer was following a grey Mazda 3 car in Qualicum Beach. Police said the vehicle was seen to be swerving and driving at varying speeds leading the officer to initiate a traffic stop.

The officer discovered that one of the passengers was breaching a court imposed curfew and was therefore arrested. A search subsequent to arrest revealed that the passenger had illicit drugs on his person, according to an RCMP news release.

After all the occupants were arrested, police said there was more than half a pound of illicit drugs (suspected to be methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine) and over $16,000 in cash seized.
