PARKSVILLE - Get ready for high winds and a heck of a lot of rain.

That's the warning tonight from Environment Canada, which is forecasting winds of up to 80 km/hr on the east coast of Vancouver Island and parts of the mainland coast.

Heavy rain — between 100 and 200 mm — is also being predicted by EC for the east coast.

Higher winds of up to 100 km/hr and heavier rain (200 mm) are forecast for the west coast of the Island as well as the north and central B.C. coasts and the north Island region.

"This is a warning that potentially damaging winds are expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions ... listen for updated statements," states the EC website.
