Highway 4 east of Port Alberni remains closed, with no estimated time for re-opening.
The highway has been closed since June 6 due to a wildfire along Cameron Lake Bluffs, near Angel Rock. The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said on Monday, June 12 that assessments are underway to monitor the danger of falling trees and debris on the highway and to assess slope conditions.
An update about the condition of the highway is expected on Tuesday, June 13, but there is no estimate regarding timing for the re-opening of the highway.
A detour route is in place between Lake Cowichan and Port Alberni via Bamfield Main, for commercial vehicles and essential travellers. Daily scheduled convoys will continue along the detour route for commercial vehicles carrying essential goods and services, and checkpoints are in place along the detour route to provide information for essential travellers.

Drivers are reminded to respect the direction of traffic-control personnel in the area.
As of Monday afternoon, the Cameron Bluffs wildfire was still listed at 254 hectares on the BC Wildfire website. Over the weekend, there was a “decrease” in fire behaviour, but BC Wildfire officials warn that there is a ridge building which will result in an increase in temperature and lowering of the relative humidity, along with gusts of wind.
The fire is still considered out of control.
