Despite the rainy weather, there was steady traffic at some public engagement booths throughout Qualicum Beach on Saturday.
The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Transit hosted three public engagement booths on Oct. 1, with locations at the Qualicum Beach Farmers' Market, Ravensong Aquatic Centre and Qualicum Foods.
The reason for the public engagement booths was to receive feedback on the new Qualicum Beach bus route and the service changes to the 91 Intercity and the 99 Deep Bay buses. The proposed service changes would be implemented in September 2017.
There are two proposed routes for Qualicum Beach. The first option is the 98 Qualicum Beach and the 95 Columbia Beach, offering trips every 60 minutes throughout the day. The second option is the 98 Qualicum Beach, offering trips every 30 minutes throughout the day.
RDN director of transportation and emergency planning services Daniel Pearce said there had been good traffic at the farmers' market throughout the day and at the aquatic centre.
"Most people want to see more transit in the region," Pearce said of the people he'd spoken to. "They like what they see."
There was a survey that people could fill out about the route changes. Pearce said the survey is also available online at www.bc.transit.com, and can be completed throughout the month of October.
