Kevin Goldfuss is running for the post of Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Area F director (Errington, Coombs, Hillers) in the Oct. 15 municipal election.

A retired municipal employee of 35 years, Goldfuss feels he has what it takes to represent the district for the next four years, according to a news release.

“As an operations manager, I was responsible for infrastructure management, water, sewer, drainage, roads, parks and buildings,” Goldfuss said. “I was involved in the development of bylaws, strategic planning initiatives, storm water management, storm water retention.”

He has experience working with government agencies, including the Ministry of Transportation, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Ministry of Forests, as well as municipal councils.

Goldfuss said he is running this fall because he believes this may be Area F’s most important election.

“It is time for me to get involved in the community, to give back to the community,” he added.

He pointed to two major areas of concern: the Official Community Plan (OCP) review and the governance study. Goldfuss said the review requires further public engagement and there are inconsistencies within the OCP, specifically zoning.

Goldfuss said groundwater recharge is decreasing and there needs to be a focus on water retention and storage.

He also is focused on the ongoing governance study, which will determine if residents want to incorporate and become a municipality or remain an electoral area. Goldfuss said he does not support incorporation and believes it would be bring more problems, such as higher taxes.
