Long weekend police report: quiet

Oceanside RCMP say weather likely contributed to the lack of problems in Parksville Qualicum Beach

They say a good rain storm is like having an extra 10 cops on the beat.

Whether or not that’s true, the iffy weather over the long weekend is being credited with a lack of problems for police.

Corporal Jesse Foreman said the Victoria Day long weekend was singularly without issue for the Oceanside detachment.

“It doesn’t look like it was a super busy weekend,” he said. “We had a couple of collisions but they were minor. The weather likely had something to do with it.”

Foreman noted the detachment will have extra officers on patrol for the Quality Foods Festival of Lights fireworks celebration in conjunction with Family Day.

“We had zero problems last year, but we will have extra people on to make sure,” he said.
