Despite their best efforts, emergency crews were unable to save a man who collapsed while driving his pickup truck along First Avenue in Qualicum Beach Wednesday.
Fire chief Daryll Kohse said the man was spotted by a passerby after his truck left the road and came to rest against a tree on the front yard of a home.
Kohse said it appears the man suffered a heart attack while driving, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
The name of the deceased man is not being released.
