Monday crash near Coombs sends driver to hospital

Police said the truck was towing a trailer with a load of wood when it suddenly got a flat rear tire while driving at highway speed

The driver of a white Ford 350 pick-up truck who lost control near the Coombs junction Monday afternoon was transported to Nanaimo General Hospital after getting a flat tire and rolling over once, according to police.

Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman said Mounties were called to the scene approximately one kilometre south of the Highway 4 junction at 2.30 p.m. Foreman said the truck was towing a trailer with a load of wood when the vehicle suddenly got a flat rear tire while driving at highway speed. "As a result the driver lost control and went off road to the right and into the ditch," he told The NEWS. "The vehicle rolled one time." Foreman said the driver sustained non life threatening injuries and a passenger riding in the vehicle did not sustain any injuries. No other vehicles were involved but Foreman said police had to reduce traffic to single lane for a short period of time for emergency personal to access the accident.
