Murder trial

Proceedings about to start in the case of Nanoose Bay man's murder charge

A Nanoose Bay man charged with murder following a shootout on Wilgress Road last year has been ordered to stand trial in Nanaimo Supreme Court.

Simon Phillip Dockerill is charged with one count of first degree murder and possessing a prohibited firearm with ammunition, following the shooting death of John Charles Borden, 47, on May 25, 2010.

Dockerill’s preliminary inquiry wrapped up last week and he returns to court Jan. 16 to fix a date for trial by Supreme Court judge and jury.

The late afternoon shooting incident killed one man and injured two others.
