The new ferry dock at French Creek Harbour is in service and just about complete.
The floating concrete structure replaces the old, wooden dock that had been a fixture of the French Creek Marina for over 50 years.
A Harbour Authority employee said the wooden structure was torn down over a month ago, but there was no disruption in service to the Lasqueti Island ferry or other dock users.
“There was no disruption during the entire process,” he said. “The ferry has been using the concrete dock the whole time they’ve been working.”
Although the new dock is serviceable, the drive-down gangway and a few other details remain to be completed.
The new dock is considered an improvement over the historic structure for a very simple reason.
“Concrete doesn’t rot,” he said.
“The old piling dock was past its life expectancy. These new ones are going in all up and down the coast.”
