Occupant escapes injury in Parksville house fire

Blaze at a carriage house April 4 not considered suspicious

The Parksville Fire Department responded to a fire at a carriage house on Finholm Street North on Thursday night.

Crews arrived on scene around 11:30 p.m. on April 4, where they found a significant fire on the exterior of the house, which was extending into the soffit/roof area.

Parksville Fire chief Marc Norris said the lone occupant of the house was able to escape uninjured.

“Our duty officer was on scene within four minutes of dispatch and our first engine was on scene within about 7.5 minutes,” Norris said. “The crew had the fire controlled quickly after arrival. The remaining time on scene was taken up with overhaul to ensure full extinguishment.”

Norris said the fire is not suspicious and an investigation is still ongoing.
