The Regional District of Nanaimo is currently reviewing proposed changes to the Ravensong Aquatic Services funding model and also to include Area E (Nanoose Bay) into the service.
Most Nanoose Bay-area residents have not been paying taxes to the service since the pool was built in 1995 and there are some who are not keen on contributing to a pool they don’t use.
The Area E community is given the chance to provide feedback on the proposal to make them a participating area. They are also able to give their input on the proposed change to the funding model to one-third assessment, one-third usage and one-third population-based from its current funding model of one-half usage and one-half assessment.
That would mean homeowners would be required to pay taxes of $8.32 for every $100,000 of the assessed value of their home.

The RDN has scheduled a number of in-person and virtual open houses to provide Area E along with the the other participating areas — the City of Parksville, Town of Qualicum Beach and Electoral Areas F (Coombs, Hilliers, Errington, Whiskey Creek, Meadowood), G (French Creek, San Pareil, Little Qualicum, Englishman River) and F (Bowser, Qualicum Bay, Deep Bay) — an opportunity to learn more about the proposed District 69 Swimming Pool Service Establishment Bylaw No. 899, 1993.
The upcoming meetings in the new year that residents can attend are:
• Jan. 4, 2023, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Nanoose Place
• Jan. 5, 2023, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Bradley Centre, 975 Shearme Rd., Coombs
• Jan. 9, 2023, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Virtual: Via ZOOM
• Jan. 18, 2023, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at BGC Parksville Child & Family Centre, Lobby, 132 Jensen Ave.E., Parksville
