The Parksville Community Centre Society has committed to stage a bi-weekly pop-up recycling depot at 1080 Industrial Way in Parksville. The pop-up depot will provide a place for citizens to drop off materials for recycling which is currently not available locally.
The society has entered an agreement with RecycleBC to organize a bi-weekly collection on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The focus will be on those materials not managed through the Regional District of Nanaimo’s regular curbside services and multifamily collection model.
The materials include:
• Flexible plastic packaging
• White foam packaging
• Coloured foam packaging
• Glass
There will be no charge to or limits placed on residents dropping off stuff.
However, materials derived from industrial, commercial, or institutional (ICI) will not be accepted at the pop-up depots and diligence will be in place to ensure these materials are not accepted. These materials will be rejected from collection and the person re-directed to the Church Road Transfer Station where they will be accepted.

Our proposal will provide for the collection of these materials, reducing the cost to travel out of the community for drop off and help keep recyclable products out of the landfill and contribute to the zero waste targets set out by the governments.
The following 9 dates for collection are proposed:
• Saturday, May 20
• Saturday, June 3
• Saturday, June 17
• Saturday, July 8
• Saturday, July 22
• Saturday, Aug. 12
• Saturday, Aug. 26
• Saturday, Sept. 9
• Saturday, Sept. 23
