Parksville council meetings take to the web

Residents will be able to watch municipal action from the comfort of their home computers

Parksville council meetings are finally going online.

Council began talking about webcasting its meetings after updated audio and video equipment was installed in the Parksville Civic and Technology Centre forum in 2010.

Starting with Monday’s council meeting, all public council meetings and hearings will be aired live on the city’s website (parksville.ca) and will then be archived and available “typically within two days or sooner if possible,” according to a news release.

The archived video will be indexed with the time of each agenda item, allowing viewers to look at a particular item discussed at any meeting. When the motion was approved in June, Coun. Carrie Powell-Davidson said it fits perfectly with council’s moves to be accountable and transparent.
