Parksville Mayor Chris Burger will let the public know on Thursday whether he intends to run for re-election this fall.
Burger's news conference is scheduled for
1 p.m. Thursday at the Parksville Community and Conference Centre on Jensen Avenue.

There have been two other people who have indicated they will run for mayor of Parksville in the Saturday, Nov. 15 municipal elections, Antonio Farinha and Coun. Bill Neufeld.
Burger won the mayor's seat in 2011 with 2,355 votes. The next closest vote-getter, former MLA Paul Reitsma, garnered 749 votes.
Those who want to be a candidate for council or mayor in Parksville can pick up nomination packages from city hall starting Friday, August 22. To get on the ballot, these nomination packages have to be returned to city hall no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10. Nomination packages will not be accepted prior to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30.
Those wishing to run for council or mayor in Qualicum Beach have similar dates to keep in mind. Nomination packages won't be available at town hall until Aug. 29, and must be returned before 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, but not prior to Tuesday, September 30.
Incumbent Mayor Teunis Westbroek is the only person to date to enter the mayor's race in Qualicum Beach.
To be eligible as a candidate in a local government election, at the time of nomination, you must:
• Be a Canadian citizen; and be, or will be, 18 years of age or more on General Voting day (Nov. 15, 2014); and
• Have lived in B.C. for at least six months (Tuesday, April 8, 2014, was the last day to meet six month residency requirement for candidates; there is no requirement for a candidate to be a resident or own property in the municipality); and
• Have not been disqualified by any law or statute from being nominated, elected or holding office.
