More than 60 business leaders celebrated Parksville Qualicum Beach Tourism Association’s 2016 achievements at its Annual Social and General Meeting (AGM) at the Parksville Community Conference Centre March 30.
Prior to the formal AGM proceedings, Laurel Sliskovic of the Sociable Scientists presented findings from the Visitor Experiences Survey conducted from July 2015 until June 2016.
Reports highlighted 2016 successes in stakeholder engagement, sport tourism, social media, and travel media relations. Parksville Qualicum Beach Tourism also announced five directors elected by acclamation for 2017/18:
Helen Corcoran, Quality Resort Bayside; Pat Jiggins, Paradise Motel/Adventure Park and Arrowsmith Golf; Brett Standerwick, Fairwinds Golf; Leif Bogwald, Vancouver Island Expeditions; and Robynne Shaw, Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort.
These directors join the rest of the board that includes: Sandy Herle, Close to You; Paul Drummond, Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort &Conference Centre; Arthur Wong, Beach Club Resort; Beth Ross, bDigital Video (Parksville &District Chamber of Commerce appointee); Marc LaCouvee (Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce appointee); Chief Michael Recalma, Qualicum First Nation; Bill Luchtmeijer, Town of Qualicum Beach liaison; Bob Rogers, RDN board liaison; Kim Burden, non-voting director, Parksville &District Chamber of Commerce and City of Parksville liaison; and Evelyn Clark, non-voting director, Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce.
Outgoing Directors Rob Hill of Oceanside Village Resort and Noel Hayward of Qualicum Beach Inn/Quality Foods were recognized for their years of dedication and contributions to the board.
Parksville Qualicum Beach Tourism’s board elected Arthur Wong as chair, Paul Drummond as vice-chair, and Pat Jiggins as treasurer. Sandy Herle continues on the board as past-chair.
“Tourism on Vancouver Island has been rising consistently during the past few years and Parksville Qualicum Beach has definitely seen more than our fair share,” said Wong. “This would definitely not have been the case without the foresight of the proactive board at Parksville Qualicum Beach Tourism, our executive director, Blain Sepos, as well as his dedicated team. I’m both honoured and eager to chair this board as we continue to plan and envision welcoming more guests to this region we call home.”
