The Parksville Volunteer Fire Department is pointing to some recent spot fires in Parksville to remind people of the dangers of the extremely hot days to come.
The PVFD posted on its Facebook page Tuesday morning (August 1) that crews had extinguished several spot fires over a 400-metre stretch of the Alberni Highway in Parksville the day before.
The spot fires, from Hickey Avenue to Bernard Avenue, are suspected to have been caused by a mechanical issue causing sparks from a vehicle.
Fire departments and other emergency organizations often caution drivers not to park their vehicles atop dry grass, especially in high heat.
“This is a reminder,” said the fire department of the spot fires. “It’s expected to be extremely hot on the Southcoast over the next several days and the fire danger is extreme. Be careful out there!”
