An elderly driver is under investigation after a reported hit-and-run crash in Port Alberni on Thursday that left one pedestrian injured.

On Dec. 20 at 8:37 p.m., the Port Alberni RCMP responded to a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Tebo Avenue and Johnston Road.

A 15-year-old was walking westbound across Tebo Avenue in the crosswalk and was within a short distance of the curb when police say he was struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck that was turning left off of Johnston Road. The driver pulled over, stopping briefly to examine his vehicle, then left the scene.

BC Ambulance Service attended the scene. The pedestrian suffered only minor injuries and was transported to hospital for medical attention. Witnesses on scene provided assistance to the victim and were able to provide a description of the truck and its licence plate number to police.

The vehicle was located later and seized for examination. The 91-year-old driver was also located and is under investigation. Police say alcohol was not a contributing factor in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed this crash and hasn’t spoken to police is asked to contact the Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424.
