Power line protection a priority: Hydro

BC Hydro reports that while they consider things like aesthetics, protecting the power lines is their priority for safety reasons.

Ted Olynyk of BC Hydro community relations reports that while they try to work with the city and consider things like aesthetics when they trim or cut down trees, protecting the power lines is their priority for safety reasons.

Olynyk was responding to a Fri., Aug. 24 News story about a resident upset with how a tree was trimmed by BC Hydro.

He points to the dangerous combination of trees and power lines for issues like fire or at least one story of a kid climbing a tree and getting electrocuted.

Responding to a complaint about dramatic trimming on Pioneer Crescent in Parksville, Olynyck also said the trees were generally planted after the power lines.
