More than 2,000 PQB residents were left without power May 18 after strong winds toppled a number of trees and powerlines.
BC Hydro’s outage map showed 2,173 affected customers in the Qualicum Beach, Dashwood and Qualicum Bay areas, as of 2:30 p.m. on May 18.
Oceanside RCMP were called to assist BC Hydro and the fire departmnt with downed power lines on a tree at Errington and Dobson Roads, according to Sgt. Shane Worth.
156 people were without power in Errington and outages are reported in the Whiskey Creek, Hilliers and Coombs areas.
BC Hydro crews worked to restore electricity service to more than 67,000 customers in the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Sunshine Coast who lost power during Wednesday’s wind storm. The hardest hit communities include Nanaimo, Duncan, Qualicum Beach and Galiano Island, according to a news rlease by BC Hydro.
Wednesday’s storm brought heavy rains and strong winds to the region and left 121,000 customers without power. Many of the outages were caused by trees making contact with power lines, the release said.
