Fears that the weather would turn foul for Qualicum Beach’s Beach Day celebration on Saturday proved unfounded, as the sun peeked through the clouds and crowds flocked to the waterfront to take part in the fun.

That flocking was aided by a small fleet of electric cars donated by local businesses for the event, which featured a giant tug-of-war, parachute games, disc golf, a beach sein, historical bathing costume show, food, music and much, much more.

The day kicked off with a traditional blessing by Adam Dick and Kim Recalma-Clutesi, along with family members and wrapped up as the tide slowly ate up the available sand.

Organizers were delighted with the turnout and vowed to make it the first of many annual celebrations of the spectacular Qualicum Beach waterfront.
