An amendment has been made to Regional District of Nanaimo policy regarding applications to the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) for for land exclusions, subdivision and non-farm use in the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR).

All applications will continue to be forwarded to the ALC for their approval but the board will now forward a general policy statement with every application. Applications must have approval from local government before it can go on to the ALC, but because directors don’t have agrology backgrounds, said electoral Area H director Dave Bartram, the board chooses not to comment specifically on them. The new policy statements generally say that the board supports any decision the ALC makes.
