RDN will purchase land to expand oceanside park in Nanoose Bay

Region receives alternate approval to make $1-million purchase

A park right along the ocean in Nanoose Bay is growing, as the Regional District of Nanaimo will spend $1 million on an adjacent piece of land.

The RDN announced last week the results of an alternate-approval process to buy 3427 Tyee Cres., a 0.13-hectare property adjacent to Blueback Drive Community Park.

The deadline to register opposition to the purchase passed Feb. 14 and the RDN received 23 eligible responses, short of the 10-per cent threshold that would have been required to block the purchase.

The RDN can now proceed with the $1,065,500 real estate purchase. The region will use $130,000 from reserves and the rest will be borrowed over 20 years. The regional district has already budgeted $30,000 for site restoration including demolition of a structure on the property.
