French Creek Community School is holding a special flea market/garage sale to kick off a year of planning, fundraising and building excitement for next year’s community centennial.
The Coombs 100 Celebration will take place next May, but activities are already taking shape and the school — a community focal point — is starting to drum up funds and volunteer excitement to make the event a big success.
Ideas already in the works for the May 18, 2012 weekend include a picnic, school open house, trade show, car show, pancake breakfast, horse riding, camping and possibly several dances.
And the centennial planning committee is still looking for ideas, business involvement and volunteers. People can join the main committee or subcommittees like souvenir memorabilia, grant applications or single event committees.
For this year’s sale on June 4, tables are available for rent for artisans or anyone interested in selling goods or used items, or people can donate items to the general sale.
There will be a food concession available and the tables will be supplied (cost $15 inside, $10 outside) and are already going fast with 15 booked according to organizers, with plenty of space to go.
The sale will include “antiques, toys, tools, furniture, sports items, including the kitchen sink and much more,” said Rose-Ellen Graham.
Donated items can be dropped off at the school weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., or call to make an appointment.
