Regional District in no rush to ban smoking

Request to consider outdoor smoking ban received and filed

The Regional District of Nanaimo is in no big rush to consider a smoke-free outdoor public places bylaw.

In a letter to the board, Heart and Stroke Foundation head Diego Marchese and BC Lung Association president Scott McDonald urged the RDN to consider a bylaw to protect residents from the deleterious effects of second-hand smoke.

Regional District directors were less than enthusiastic about the idea, voting to receive the correspondence without action.
