Regional District of Nanaimo implements employee vaccination policy

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is implementing a COVID-19 vaccination policy for all employees and contracted employees.

The policy comes into effect on Jan. 10, 2022; employees must provide proof of vaccination or regular negative testing results.

A news release stated policy is the latest measure adopted by the RDN to lessen the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The RDN will continue to follow provincial health orders and employ best practices in our facilities and while delivering programs and services to protect the health and safety of our employees, residents and their families.

“The decision to require vaccines for all employees was not made lightly and only after much research and discussion with the management team, union representatives and service partners,” said Douglas Holmes, CAO. “The policy is consistent with other jurisdictions and we are grateful to all of our employees who continue to work within necessary pandemic guidelines to safely deliver essential and non-essential programs and services to our residents.”

Employees will be required to provide proof of full vaccination status by this deadline. The deadline allows staff sufficient time to get two doses of the vaccine by Jan. 10 if they have not yet received their first dose.
