Design and preliminary road work is starting on Temple Street next week

With the official start of design and preliminary work for rebuilding 2.1 km of Temple Street, the City of Parksville is asking for patience with any minor traffic delays.

The preliminary design for the $3.8 million project was awarded to Koers & Associates Engineering Ltd. for $197,639 at council’s last regular meeting, which will bring the design to about 75 per cent complete with conceptual drawings and cost estimates.

The funding is included in the city’s 2012-2016 financial plan for work from Bay Avenue to 60 metres west of Phillips Road and will include upgrading the road, a pedestrian link and the upgrade or replacement of underground utilities.

There may be disruptions for four weeks starting Aug. 13, while Levelton Consultants Ltd. drills bore holes to assess the sub-grade. Traffic flagging crews will be present.

The city will host an open house with design options in January 2013.
